During this stage, STRIVE DC focuses on helping individuals develop the workforce skills and credentials needed to secure long term employment. This component is delivered through STRIVE DC’s intense, three week attitudinal job prep class. Clients learn how to take orders, accept criticism and deal effectively with customers; how to think in terms of job advancement and long term careers; how to dress and speak appropriately; and how to use the telephone and computer, write resumes and build social capital. All trainees are certified in customer service or basic construction skills. The curriculum is conducted in a simulated workplace environment where all participants are expected to meet the daily demands of attendance, punctuality, proper attitude, and dress code.
